Mulan, because why not?

Mulan and Proud!!! (insert cheesy-empowering music) If it's childhood, or adulthood - we still love an empowering female action (and non-action) leading lady, no matter where (including culture, religion & etc.,) they're from. Mulan has been one of those childhood films I've grew up with, and always hoped they would make it into a real live action adventure. The peeps from above said 'let there be power, talking dragons, culture loving, role changing, and all' be done! B A M! Disney has agreed to make that happen, and have been rolling out some possible candidates to play Fa Mulan - some people might like, or dislike, or some they don't agree on. This one gif above - was the beginning for Mulan's transition into a warrior, and it was a big deal. Watch the film, if you haven't!

Constance Wu: Parallels - Fresh off The Boat
Brenda Song: Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior - Dads ( I've been a fan of Brenda Song for a life time, and always wanted her to be Mulan, but I'm not sure she's ever thought about it, or wants to be apart of Disney for one more ride.)
Taecyeon: Cinderella's Stepsister - 2PM

Anyways, for me growing up with films like Mulan was amazing, because it was something that helped shaped me to who i've become. Being a girl, or growing up into a women, the way our parents and theirs were brought up to be, to become, and shape up into that - was apart of our culture, or religion. There were so many things we, as girls, couldn't do because 'you're a girl' 'they're boys' and all that nonsense still going on till this day. What do you do when you've had enough of the 'boys this, boys that, girls need to be, and be this?' - you learn how to stand your ground, and bring some respect along with it, to let people know You're A Girl/Women and You Can DO Just About ANYTHING Boys/Guys Can - Just how Mulan wanted to take on that honor, and fight not only for the respect of her dad (whom didn't know) but for him, bringing on courage and strength for herself - later on proving the guys around her that she, though in disguise as one of them, (then it being revealed later on) can and will do what they're doing to fight in this war to save their people, and home. She goes through ups, and downs - from transitioning from the 'typical' Chinese costume of child/women - to a a warrior who ends up finding oneself through it all.  This film can relate to both the girls, and boys from all ages - dealing with certain things at either the same or different times Mulan is going through - or can simply relate to taking on something in honor of their parents, and later on doing it for themselves, too. Or having this feeling that they're not good enough, so they're scared to let them down or themselves - but at the end with a positive mind, and being - things will get better with a lovely result. Being self empowered, (female empowered, too - being a feminist is/was what Mulan showed and carried on) and confident in what you do ... goes a long way.

(a little random convo on twitter with carolina: they really can't mess up this movie - the younger generation needs it - to know you can still be a girl like Mulan stand your ground, self empowerment and all that good stuff - doing what people think girls can't do & whatnot)

Co-Writer, Carolina: Live action movies on behalf of Disney characters are taking over the film industry and for years I've wished for Mulan to be done. When it was confirmed they were doing it I couldn't contain my excitement about it as well as a long list of worries; such as the perfect casting choice for Mulan, and a faithful story telling. Disney has all kinds of characters and stories that allow kids to feel they can identify with. Therefore, the importance of a character like Mulan in today's culture is enormous. I really hope that the people who's in charge of bringing this amazing story to life actually care for it. For starters with the right casting, the story takes place in China and I wouldn't want or either expect actors who aren't Chinese or the typical "all Asians look the same so let's cast someone else" that would be wrong in so many levels and lead whoever watches the movie to believe the same, something I definitely don't want to happen. Apart from this, I'm worried about the way Mulan is portrayed, for people who are familiar with the legend about hua Mulan you know there are several differences between it and the animated movie. They are justified in order to be watched by a younger audience, but with this new live version i wouldn't mind if they took more details about the real Hua Mulan and incorporate them to the plot, keeping the essence of it though no need to re-do the whole thing. I want girls and boys to be inspired by Mulan's actions, I want them to know that they don't need super powers to be a hero or heroine, that if they are girl who feels more comfortable in pants rather than a skirt it is fine because it's you, and no one should tell you otherwise. These are some thoughts that I wanted to share, now it's just waiting and hoping for the best and if you haven't seen Mulan I recommend you do it now cause you're missing one of Disney's greatest female characters. - C

Some of the stages Mulan goes through along the journey - taking on her dads role in the war she ends up battling, but has to go through the training, acceptance to become the warrior she never thought she would become, or seen through another's eyes.
Anything YOU can do, I can do, too. Mulan and Proud!

Things i'm looking forward to this month ... or so

Just a quick post for this Tuesday evening. From films, to shows, to all things different in a scramble order. First off, films or well movies (whichever one prefers to be the right term - i use both):

1) DOPE: I already saw this before it came out and it's a must watch, especially for this generation. You can learn a lot from this film, and i love to see fresh faces on the big/small screen doing their thing. I mostly wanted to watch it because of my adoration to Zoe Kravitz - but everyone (minus like three) did a great job overall. I'm looking forward to see more of the cast in future projects.

2) A list of maybes: I've been on the fence about watching Jurassic World - well, I think I'll wait for dvd or something. Also, the Terminator Genisys is like an eeeh maybe - but I do want to see how they're doing this, if it's following after movie two (judgment day - which was my favorite) due to part three (rise of the machines) being crap-ish minus a few things, and part four (salvation) wasn't as bad as everyone thought it was.

3) Inside out: Hell yeah, this grown up - ish wants to watch it! from Mindy, to Amy, to Bill ... to looking like a great watch, it's just that i'll wait to take my niece when she's back from vacation.

Mad Max! I didn't know it was a remake, but it has gotten really great reviews of how badass of a film it is. Oh! and it's always lovely to see Nicholas Hoult changing his genres, along with Zoe - and to the new faces getting the chance to shine.

Paper Towns: Yup, still haven't finished the book but it will be a quick read, and it's nice to see Nat Wolff (childhood tv memories right there), and Cara Delevingne share this pretty neat chemistry on screen - seems like a much watch for this adventure.

Me Earl and the Dying Girl looks good, too.

A-not-so-ok-trip to New York, towards the end of the month. I get these anxiety attacks, and i sometimes can't control them nor know i'm having them until someone points them out. Also, crowds, crowds, and crowds ... people, people, people. I hope claustrophobia doesn't kick in.

Trying to get back into writing - reading - keep sharing my thoughts - walking because i miss that - breaking out of a funk of life i've been in. I shall see how everything falls into place.

Here are a few recommendations from a friend, down in Colombia!
Hot Pursuit - Paper Towns - Mr. Holmes - Pixels - Kill Bill - Jurassic World - Kick- Ass - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Thanks, Carolina ... so much for a short post (spanish laughter), and thanks to whomever is reading and checking in for new posts! See you next time for a fashion love post.

Starting fresh, and whatnot

I've been planning and seeing how and when to be a vegetarian, and today couldn't be a better start. I've grown out of eating certain things, because I have no appetite for them - so why not try to go a different route? I haven't eaten red meat in years, and the falling out of eating chicken and/or turkey just happened. Maybe it's a sign, and sooner or later it can lead to veganism which a sister of mine has followed on the path too, because it's a better lifestyle to choose. You can feel the difference once you've started, it's the motivation and energy you get more of - or maybe that's just how I see it, how the mind works better once you've stopped consuming so much poisonous crap they've been feeding us for decades, trying your best to eat right before it's too late, before all the healthy things have turned into the poisonous crap we're all trying to get away from. It's actually sicking to think that the foods, and drinks we're eating/drinking contains chemicals that can, or already is killing us - bringing up diseases you thought would never happen because your doctor says you're 'healthy' - it can happen to anyone: any time, any place, any moment.

Read for the labels, check the ingredients, and search for the names you've never heard of. Do some research on the things being made, and why they have organic versions to everything, and sometimes you have to be careful due to labels being wrong, and things not being what they seem. It's a scary thing, but look into everything just to have the knowledge of it - not to make you go crazy thinking the worst of the situation, when you can turn it around and have it be better. It shouldn't hurt much to know these things, and share them with others.

In time, only you can decided what is right for you, and what you do with your decision.
I've decided to go on this path, not only for the fact It can help my mind, keep my memories alive, and fresh. But to help me eat more (dealing with this since i was younger, and it hasn't gotten better - will share in a different post), sleep better, have energy to do what I want to do - stop feeling so sluggish time-to-time after eating.

If writing down what you're having for a meal helps you, then keep that up. But it's never helped me because I felt like it was driving me nuts to keep up with something so little even if it helps. I know I won't have to do that - my mind and stomach should already let me know in the healthiest way as possible. What I'm consuming should already let me know if I'm full or not, or if I might be over eating - which hasn't been a problem due to a problem I already need to fix ... somehow.

Anyways, I just want to ramble for today, and let whomever is reading know that this path should be a good one in every way for me - not that it matters to you, but just wanted it out in the open.

Good luck with your new path/journey to a better you, and life! Post ya on Friday. Here is one of my all time favorite artists, Kelly Clarkson with her new song 'Invincible' - it's me. Like it's everything and so uplifting, and makes sense - it's just a great song, instantly a favorite! Have a lovely Wednesday.

"Beat down on me, beat down like a waterfall
'Cause I can take on so much more than I had ever dreamed"
