'Sharp Objects'

BR: 5/5
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Yes, it was previously recommended on the blog, but i just feel so attached to this book that i must do it once again. Ever since i started being obsessed with books i've loved suspense stories, so if that's something you enjoy this one is a MUST read. It's good to see this kind of stories and woman portrayals on today's culture. We are seen as victims most of the time that's it's like people sometimes forget woman can be as destructive as men, not something to be proud of course, but my point is that it is REAL. twisted, raw, real, intense, haunting...you won't put it down.i loved Flynn's writting so much that i'm really looking forward to read more of her books, gone girl is most likely to come next or maybe dark places.

Oh by the way, Sharp Objects has been announced to be adapted for tv so hopefully we will see it soon-ish on the screen.

Book Description: 'The story follows Camille Preaker, a Journalist living in Chicago who has to return to her hometown in order to report on a series of brutal murders.'

'Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.'

Thanks for sticking around and reading our reviews ... well trying to understand mine at least.
October is coming, and random things will be happening ... maybe!

'Love Letters To The Dead'

BR: 5/5
Love Letters To The Dead by Ava Dellaria

Ending with 1/2 book reviews for 'September Reading' is Carolina!

I don't tend to read books narrated through letters but I've heard really good comments about this one in particular that i thought "hey let's give a try" and what a great decision that was. Ava Dellaria's writing is captivating from the very beginning making me ask so many questions about this story that will only be solved within the end. This novel has definitely made it's way into my list of faves. I've been able to connect with the character in a huge level and fell in love with the story in general. There's no way you won't enjoy this, highly recommend it.

More over at goodreads.

Book Description: 'Love letters to the dead is about teenage Laurel who recently lost her sister and founds herself alone about to start high school and when her teacher assigns the class to write a letter to one dead person. 'Croak'

BR: 4/5
Croak (series: 1/3) by Gina Damico

G R I M - R E A P E R S! yup caps are necessary, due to the fact I love things supernatural (like the show ... yup, the character death is one of my favorites) - one of the reasons why i'm all for reapers and this series. Like how cool would it be to know you have this somewhat scary gift, but you can help those pass on without being in so much pain - though it can leave you feeling sorry, but it's a good thing-ish? No? ok ... Well, i first read this as a recommendation from a librarian, and i was glad she told me to check this story out - i enjoyed the read, and as soon as i was done with the first book, i went to grab the second - the third along with meeting the author who is pretty chilled, like her characters in-a-way. Not sure who my favorites are, it might be the uncle. I wish i can visit and have conversations with those who passed over from decades ago ... even now and feels a sense of comfort.

Check out goodreads for more.

Book Description: 'Fed up with her wild behavior, sixteen-year-old Lex's parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape.

But Uncle Mort's true occupation is much dirtier than shoveling manure. He's a Grim Reaper. And he's going to teach Lex the family business.

She quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. But Lex can't stop her desire for justice - or is it vengeance? - whenever she encounters a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again.

Will she ditch Croak and go rogue with her reaper skills?'

'If You Could See Me Now'

BR: 3/5
If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern

These reviews are from books that i've already read, and still want to reread no matter how old i'll get, even though i have yet to hit my mid nor late twenties ... aha forever early t w e n t i e s #sadlife. Anyways, i'm all for the imagination getting its chance on being explored no matter the age of the person. Ivan became a favorite character of mine while reading this, somewhat last year or before that. We sometimes don't know how to take things how they come, especially new challenges in life, and from how much Elizabeth has grown throughout the book is something we can all take time to realize the importance of self or whatever it may be with a little help from someone as Ivan's done in a way for Elizabeth. Or how as i remember ...

Check out more from Cecelia goodreads.

Book Description: 'Elizabeth Egan's life runs on order: Both her home and her emotions are arranged just so, with little room for spontaneity. It's how she counteracts the chaos of her family--an alcoholic mother who left when she was young, an emotionally distant father, and a free-spirited sister, who seems to be following in their mother's footsteps, leaving her own six-yearold son, Luke, in Elizabeth's care. When Ivan, Luke's mysterious new grown-up friend, enters the picture, Elizabeth doesnt know quite what to make of him. With his penchant for adventure and colorful take on things large and small, Ivan opens Elizabeth's eyes to a whole new way of living. But is it for real? Is Ivan for real?'

If you haven't read 'Love, Rosie' you should if you're in for the whole letter/message format with books, and see where your mind takes you ... i think.

'The Perks of Being A Wallflower'

BR: 5/5
The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This right here! became one of my favorite books, ever. Favorite read, ever. There are moments in life where things happen to you, and you just can't seem to find the ways or words to explain while wanting to share them with whomever. I found things in the story i could relate to, things i wished were easy to mention but the way ones mind works - it's hard to even believe it they're true. I loved this book, and enjoyed the film as some of my favorites were cast to bring these different characters, individuals to life - to share with the world how words can be shown in so many ways. If you haven't read this book, if it's been sitting on the shelf either because it's new or old - take it out, recommend it to someone, and have a chat about it. Everyone will have different takes, and reviews on this. It's what makes books great to review or recommend to others as we all have different views on everything we read, see & etc., (i always get out of topic or so it feels so) - we all want/need friends or just someone who would be there for us no matter what - that will listen and tell us it's going to be alright, because they're there or that you're there for yourself as you would be for the next person going through similarities. Friends like Charlie, are friends to keep, and love for who they are. Friends that accepted him, and where there for him - it was great to see this story transition to film. Let you visually see what i am. Check this book out at goodreads.

Book description: 'Charlie is a freshman.

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.'

For me, books have no limits to age, like some would say, and it shouldn't. Reading should be fun to do - there is always something new to try, and learn from. Fiction is just as real, just as true to events in life as something non-fiction would be. Fiction helps in more ways as a true detailed piece would be - stories are stories, true or false, for fun or whatever it may be. Read what you want - pick up whatever you want and get down to it. #limitnobook

'Life After Theft'

BR: 3/5
Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike

I was reading a little sentence where someone reviewed this book awhile back, and the cover is somewhat different from the actual story - it never crossed my mind, though it doesn't matter ...? anyways. I enjoyed this book - some of the characters (like most from every book, there's a dislike) were ones you could either relate or just simply like, while the others just annoy you like typical friends or something. I'm all for the paranormal as well which got me into reading this in the first place. I like the whole idea of the dead finding their way to communicate with the living, and either intriguing or terrifying them as if they've seen ... you get it? this spirit is just trying to do the right thing, because time was up on their end - it's their way of fixing things like how the description says 'unfinished business' in order to move off to the afterlife, if i must say. If i could come back to life after to fix whatever it is, i'll take that chance too, and annoy someone till they helped me while it somewhat benefited them as well. Anyways, my describing forever sucks, so give this a read - love it, hate it - i liked the story. I wanted more, due to the fact that I was for Kim and Jeff's friendship.

For more of Aprilynne's books more.

Book description: 'Moving to a new high school sucks. Especially a rich-kid private school. With uniforms. But nothing is worse than finding out the first girl you meet is dead. And a klepto.

No one can see or hear Kimberlee except Jeff, so--in hopes of bringing an end to the snarkiest haunting in history--he agrees to help her complete her "unfinished business." But when the enmity between Kimberlee and Jeff's new crush, Sera, manages to continue posthumously, Jeff wonders if he's made the right choice.'

'Heart of Dread: Frozen'

BR: 3/5
Heart of Dread: Frozen (book one of three) by Melissa de la Cruz, and Michael Johnston.

As mentioned last time when i recommend some books, this was one to review. I read this last year, i believe, and i found it to be a good story - well worth a read. If i remember clearly, or a good chunk of it, I still need to read part two, as Ryan (wes) went back to go find his sister after all they've done to help Natasha escape to this place where she feels like she belongs. A place where she needed to be - a place called 'Blue'. It's not easy getting to one place after you're apart of a crime, or so to speak. It's a mission these characters are on, and if you love a bit of romance mixed with danger/action, then give this a read. You can check out more books written by Melissa here.

Part of the book description:
"At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.

But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all."

br = book rating.
i can never explain things 100 percent how i want to.

'I Am Malala'

First of the month (bone thug-n-harmony plays in the background) ... first one out of the list to be reviewed! It's strange to think this book should be reviewed, or something like that, because you can't review someone's life ... well i can't, not in the way you review a show to recommend - i can't recommend ones life, you know? it's just weird to put it in words like this - so i will recommend this book, because it's a story that's based on ones life. Someone wanting to do something great, and breaking the barriers they, and the ones around them were dealing it, education. It's crazy to think something bad can happen, because you or someone you know is fighting for their education, for their community, and beyond - to be able to learn and have dreams they can follow. Dreams they should be able to achieve, and pass that along to the next generation. Reading what happened to Malala Yousafazi, at a young age or just happening to anyone, is heartbreaking. She wanted for children to get an education, especially young girls - her dad, if you read or  you're still reading the story, is the type of person one needs to build that confidence, (he was/is so supportive, such a strong person and all - that he's someone to look up to) as you build up your self-esteem, or the ability to stand your ground. That's what she did. Fighting for education. She is still out there making a change along with the worlds activist, because equality not just only in education, but for gender/ race to be found equal and not for one to be be-little because of who they are, where they come from - who they chose to love.

No, this isn't a review, but somewhat a recommendation to read this book, see, and be in ones shoes as they grew up faces the standards this world is still going through. How people wanted to end ones life, because they were fighting for education - girls should be able to go to school, and learn. We have dreams, too. We shouldn't be put down because we're women - we are more than just this 'house wife': (nothing wrong with that) men see us as the ones to cook, clean, give birth, and all this, but we are more than that - so we should have a say in the things we do, want, need, and what we want to be! I feel like sometimes we learn to teach - learn to love - learn to be ones self to say it's ok for others to do the same without being degraded or something more awful. Just let us live, be different! Let women live, love, be the educator, be equal, be free. Let us continue to make a positive impact on others. We want to live just as everyone else. We matter.
