College: It's still the same

Whoaaaaa to not blogging. I'm still trying to get the hang of it though it's just the same as before. However, I've decided to head back to school (college) and take on a major I can live with thanks to my liking of writing and reading, though the whole where-the-comma stuff belongs will always be annoying when revising and all that jazz comes to play. I guess that's what editors are for? maybe.

So far, school is chilled and nothing like preparing to fail tests before the month is over with many more to come before the end of December. Going back to school wasn't really nerve racking it was just the idea of being around people that I wasn't for, since I didn't like high school so much; there are already clicks since the majority of people starting off are high school graduates, while the rest of us are early, mid to late 20's and plus are starting fresh or finishing up the last year. I need to get the hang of studying to test well because i really don't want to fail something I know I can pass, like I like history and if I fail ... I probably won't pick up another book. Overall I just want to get over this semester to keep on moving forward.

This might not seem like an actual college experience thing, but it's more freedom compared to high school though all the responsibility is still yours when it comes to homework, staying on top of things to pass. It's just that your parents aren't there to wake you up, remind you to do your homework and etc., If they're helping pay for your school than that's even more things for you to focus on because you don't want to fail and all that becomes pointless - the same for those who are either paying out of pocket or taking out loans to be in school. Take things as they come. Feel stuck? ask for help, it's what the offices are for and what your classmates are for too (all hopes it works). Take on classes you know you can achieve in and always make sure to be up to date with things. (the experience is different for all, and that's cool since it's a learning experience to continue helping in life).

Make things count.
Make them positive.
Make them your mission to succeed in life, even with some failures because you can learn from them.
Just keep making things happen to better your life and self.
Keep taking that step at a time, something good will happen.

<- Anyways, these are some of my books for the five classes i'm taken. Yes, five! One is online though ... bless. Since I've been out of school for ages .. my math needs some help.

love what you do,
forever.

updates on if i fail or not will continue.

Summer Reading: Sisterfire

A quick summer reading post! I've been reading parts of SISTERFIRE which contains multiply stories from different authors and poets. African American women writers to be exact. Think of this book as being Taste Berries for Teens when you were younger due to the different stories the book also has, but sisterfire for a much more older range of people(in that makes sense). I pick a random page and start reading from authors I've never heard of or haven't read anything of theirs in a long time so it'd be interesting that way since you're not sure on what you're going to get while reading. I've taken some pictures of the stories I've read so far, and they're worth a read. I'll recommend anyone wanting to know more of African American women writers or just want to get a sense/taste of which ones they would want to read more off based on the stories this book provides. When giving a review, I'm not sure what to give this since it's not just one person whose story is being told, so when i'm completely done, i'll update this post with an overall rating of this book.
Post ya next time!

In a Different Language ...

This is just a random post ... as the rest of them.

So like when it comes to music, right. (This is going to be all over the place since it's become a topic because it had me wondering about some things.) There are many countries testing and creating their own music with genres very well known to be from black (culture) america or just simply from here(?), and they sound pretty amazing. However, when it comes to certain genres they sound super weird to me. Yup, kpop or khiphop which some categorize to be the hip hop of korea, though i just see it as it being apart of the korean pop as it's a mixture of their language (culture-ish) and interpretation of the pop culture. I am not a fan of 'khiphop' and sometimes not really for the reggae, and a bit of the rnb version either (but it's the main thing along with pop) with the groups. I feel like Epik High has this appreciation and knowledge of what hiphop/rap means and where it comes from. I get this feeling of their music being very well written and a great listen. I feel like there are some artists who try way too hard to have this hiphop/rap going on, and i'm not sure whether it's the company they're with or something. There is at least one or two 'rappers' in the groups which seem to not have a place when it comes to some songs, like when you're just listening and then a verse comes on that doesn't suit the song ... It might just be a few but I wonder if these artist get to choose which to be and if they're comfortable with the whole thing. Just because i'm not this fan of 'khiphop' doesn't mean someone else doesn't love it. It's just a bit strange for me, and it's not only this mixture of genre, it's the same for every language that does the whole rap/hiphop, and the merge with reggae .

Maybe it's the understanding of where it comes from, who is appreciating and not just profiting and think it's some type of trend (as with clothing and etc.,) as their songs climb up on the charts. I feel like many artist in the music industry mimic (voices) and portray hiphop/rap or w.e thinking it's cool , because money and fans are pouring in... (appropriating)

These are my favorites I guess since i'm on the topic. Things might change as i'm just getting into all the genres South Korea's artists are offering, and hey, when it comes to music-you can't be wrong as your taste changes for something new and different (though it's the same, but ... music):

B.A.P - I find them to be super alternative, but they are hiphop infulenced (maybe it's me. i see alternative as a mixture of music genres in one, and they sometimes remind me of Linkin Park). The raps tend to fit well with the music the group is bringing to the audience, since the group consists of 4 of the 6 being singers.
EPIK HIGH - as mentioned above.
Dok2 - i only started listening to this person thanks to DEAN who is into the kpop/krnb (and does a freaking good job at it - vocals are amazing, plus Taeyang is someone whom i would love to hear more of as his voice fits so well. They need to collab.)
T.O.P - lyrically i feel like he will change the way hiphop is done in south korea, or just his love of expressing the art and of when credit is do .. (it might just be whomever i listed) Or i'm just literally biased because i want to hear more for him and 'doom dada' is really great.
Cheetah - i came across a song she did with Ailee whom i adore. I like her flow and need to listen more, but felt like she belongs in the list.
I'm also going to listen to Beenzino since I liked the 'Born Hater' track he was in by Epik High.

That's it since I'm getting used to listening to khiphop and other languages (even mine and it's so funny to me) and how it translate to english since it's a language i listen in. If i end up abandoning in this genre or others in different languages, then, damn. Just because i didn't list the most popular person(s) doesn't mean someone else doesn't enjoy their music. Different tastes for all, yet music is for all. It's an expression of art through words.

You can say 'music is just music', but for some it's way more than that. When credit is due and not buried, is when you learn to take it as is and have this appreciation instead of appropriating. Then it becomes something you love.

What does it mean to you?

What do 'relationships' mean to you? Is one more important than the other?

For me, a friendship is just as important than anything because it can either become a relationship within family bonds or a partner wise bond. Sometimes it feels like we're all friendless because things aren't what they were years ago or even weeks ago. It's something that changes with or without you, it's something that needs some love and care, yet understanding of being OK to agree to disagree ... well i think so. We all fight, cry or sometimes just shut people out to the point of there being no type of relationship (friend, family). We won't always agree on everything and that's ok - it's ok to have different opinions as long as it's not some degrading, shutting the other down or some sort of cruel thing. We all have a mind of our own, it's just sometimes more than others it's used by someone else instead of our own.

There are too many people in other's business/private life without that invitation of being told it's ok to sit down with them and listen or even so they tend to invest so much time in it and word gets out to those you may not associate with anymore, and then BAM it all ends, because sometimes things are better left either between just you or whom you're with. How else will things become better and solid if it's shared between everyone with it's supposed to be private? The help you could be seeking might not be keeping things between the two of you, so do be careful of what you're sharing because there will be an outcome of negative things you may or not be willing to take because it became a slip up.

We all have falling outs and not know the reason(s) behind it or someone else could be behind it, and you're just not going to fix the other end as long as they're still there. Don't let that happen when you feel like it's a solid and well positive bond between you and whomever it is, because all of that can end and when you want to fix it whenever the time comes, you will be debating wither or not to give it a go. If you're down for keeping a friend and/or partner and having it last longer than before. Sure 'nothing' lasts forever, but that forever could just be in the moment; the time you've shared and decided to invest in. For me that's the definition of forever, because it's what i want to make of it, whom i want to make it with in whatever relationship i decided to seek.

Things are what you make of them, just as life is how you make it for the better. It's alright to paint this picture, but don't think it's how reality is everywhere, because it's not due to it being different for everyone else you may come across. If you think of positive beauties, you will get it, and learn how to let all the bad fall out.

Keep growing, and keep learning. Make your own happiness and forever.

Freaks or Geeks? Hmm.. Both.

Hey, it's been long time since I wrote a review, but i'm finally on vacation which means free time. YAY! So I just started watching this 90's tv show called Freaks and Geeks,  mainly because Linda Cardellini was in it and i love her since i watched ER (i hope Tiffany allows me to review it some time :P she knows my big obsession with that show) So i'm on episode 12 now and i really really like it. It's probably your typical high school comedy- drama series but i don't know, there's something that makes me keep watching it; he characters are easily something anyone can feel related to, the comedy scenes are good, plus it's kind of cool to watch Linda Cardellini, James Franco, John Francis Daley, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Busy Philipps in their teen years acting.  This wasn't as long as I expected but i do recommend you to check this show maybe you'll get hooked like me!! a total GEEK!

Carolina

Oh ... yeah i saw this show not too long ago and i was wondering why they didn't renew it. My favorite would have to be the brother, because the faces he makes are the best along with his shade of friends. It's a good comedy though it gives off this that 70s show feel when you're wondering if it's really funny or not ... but it is worth a watch and a great way to watch different things to compare, and share ... as we're doing.

Hello Monster/ I Remember You

Yeah Yeah Yea ... Tv, of course.
So i've been watching some kdrama's (korean tv) to see if i'm really up for watching their shows vs the ones in america, and ... somewhat yes, but no. I do like the fact that the shows i watch compared to the american ones is that the writing isn't so focused on sex to the point it's in every scene ... it's more witty and humorous (for me), it's not as dry and pushing too hard to make a laughing moment happen or a sad one at the least. The actors they cast for these roles know how to bring out the characters. It's not like for the american shows you don't get these either, it's that sometimes it lacks more than the kdramas (from what i've seen) though they can be 50/50 when something is or isn't interesting to watch. Watch them all! ... well, if you can.

Let's move on ...

2015's HELLO MONSTER/I REMEMBER YOU: I came across this show to see how Seo In-Guk was going to portray this criminal profiler character, Hyun, from the last thing i've seen him in (king of high school .. there was another title), and i enjoyed it. I think he did a good to great (the same, really for me), you start off a a younger version of Hyun with brother Min, and dad, and all, getting into the whole dad thinks he's this evil being, like a monster (duh title) - he's raising one so he literally bunks him in the house ... as if he were the same as his inmate client (which hyun ends up meeting, and they exchange a few words and that's when shit begins as the inmate escapes).

However, lawyer Sun-Ho being played by Park Bo-Gum made my focus shift to him as it had me wondering if he was this person or pretending to be, then later on finding out who he truly was, like dude was always this psychopath at a young age. (is this a spoiler?) He's like super clean and very careful when doing his 'job', but leaving clues for Hyun to catch on. Like letting him know who he is, how he's felt like he was abandoned and given to Joo with this sherlock feel or any mystery feel actually.

The older version, Joon Ho, was a good character, too but i wasn't as focused on him since he was a mortician? so clearly he kills and cleans his masterpiece without a trace, but then Hyun already scenes things throughout each episode of who he actually is as they are neighbors and they tend to run into each other when there's a crime.
With only an episode or two, the younger version of Joon-Young (joon ho) played by Do Kyung-Soo (d.o from exo) was my favorite. Maybe i'm over reacting but he did his character justice, like nailed his little role. I wanted to see more of him, but they clearly needed the story to be more present than past in order to keep everyone interested, i would love to see Kyung Soo is something like this again to watch him fully progress into this 'monster' of a character.

The show was great through and through, i tend to always figure out which character is this and that, but that didn't happen towards the end when things were picking up. There are other characters, but these were the show stealers (if that's a thing). The female lead (only one) is connected to Joon Young/Ho as the rest of them since he is a well known murder who they couldn't turn in because the show turned into a little cat and mouse game at the end!

8 or 9 or 10/10 for the story.

First time in New York? Say what ...

Yup. Say WHAT!?
Yeah ... I was supposed to go last year, but it never happened. I for one am not a fan. Maybe because it was a death trap almost everywhere i walked and random characters coming up to you for pictures then asking for money for a picture you never wanted, or because the air was suffocating to me, along with the freaking construction that swallowed times square. Did i mention the characters wanting to take pictures with me? as soon as they saw my camera they assumed and it was really scary how they just came all at once, and i wasn't trying to be so rude while panicking on the inside. I get the whole time square is crowded and all, but people must not have work or other things to do for it to be so crowded at any time of the day.

I took somewhat of photos and videos, but i just wanted to enjoy the waking (not the bumping into others), literally wondering if people were going to die due to the jaywalking or whatever they call it. It was really bad. I really thought we was going to hit someone and catch a case because they didn't know how to wait for the signals or for the cars to stop.

On the other hand, Tonic's was a cool place to eat. Checked out Carlo's Bakery which i didn't know they had in NY or just forgot. It was small and nice, but i didn't go back due to needing to finish up the trip and head home. Definitely got a street portrait though! Oh, totally clueless with there being a 'Matilda' play on broadway?? the movie was one of my favorites growing up, and i thought twitter was just trying to cast people for remakes and all. Some things don't need to be remade, especially certain classics.

I think this wraps it up ...

It's not like i will never visit this place again, it's just that i won't be planning on going anytime soon. Hopefully when that happens, the death traps would be sealed with giving the air a clean feel. If you've never been, do go and experience it on your own. We all have different tastes or views.

Japanese Festival Fun

Earlier in the year ... well, I think either March or something. No, definitely April. I went to a Japanese Festival which they do every year where I live, but I never knew about it. This festival gives you an insight of the Japanese Culture and what they bring as they mix both the Japanese and Japanese-American wonders. There were so many tents set up with either the same clothing (kimonos) or different type of food, sweets & ramen noodles which I haven't got around to taste since the Naruto one seems to be pretty popular (however, in elementary I used to always eat their noodles ... does that count?) ranging from different prices, along with crafting tables for the younger kids or like candy making. They had it all to share with us, and get to know where, what they culture means to them.

With this festival bringing in probably thousands of people, it was crowded in some areas getting to tents because everyone wants in to search around, take pictures, learn more about this and that. I took some pictures, stared at the cosplayers, anime comics/graphics/books, religion, music (mostly or just all in english bringing out the Japanese - American culture). I was definitely for the book marks the nice ladies had made for me with my name which was spelled using their katakana writing system (one i'm learning, because i can only write that way lol).

There were a few dance groups performing new and old songs, even a kpop song: F(x)'s "Four Walls" was playing. There was this boy group, still new but after they did their solos and group performances, they gained some fans from the audience. The host was trying call them all back which was funny, but it's really great to see these types of reactions for new groups or whomever the individuals are. The group is called Jr. Exlie, i believe from Project Taro based in New York. Triple threats within the group, too! Talented dancers from the day, and well, a nice day to enjoy. (i can't access the videos from the boy group which i really wanted to show, but check youtube, i guess)

Summer Blogging & Updates

Hello, Hello!
Seven months since the last post? pssssst huh?

Yes. I figured I'll just keep to the blogging on random stuff since i have this thing for writing and stepping out of my comfort zone ... not to the point of it being negative, though. There will be book reviews coming up within the next two weeks! Y A Y ! though i haven't been reading but it will get done. Tv, apps, favorites and all.

Yesterday, June 1st, if i'm correct has marked a year since being vegetarian!! since i've decided to give it a go and see if i can actually last. I have. Now it's just time to actually make better eating choices since i already know and done (still am) some research on certain foods thanks to my sister and some random fitness/nutrition/internet people; totally going to try out this 90 days food/fitness with Joanna Soh, to see where it takes me. Also, i'll finally try out this youtube thing ... probably won't last, but oh well.

G R U N C H * T I ME

Oh, yeah, I went to a Japanese Festival earlier in the year, and it was pretty neat! Also traveled to NYC for the first time two days ago (5/31) and well ... story for another time (tuesday & thurday or saturday & sunday)! Although you can view some pictures below.
